The haunting of the white nun

Ottilienberg near Eppingen is a mystical place that has been inhabited by many cultures. An extraordinary legend surrounds this mountain, which is located on a striking high plateau. During the Thirty Years’ War, the nuns who lived there fled from enemy troops, burying their money and the church bell under the mountain beforehand. The convent was then converted into a farmstead, but remained uninhabited for many years because a ghostly white nun with a goat was said to haunt the place. But one day, the haunting suddenly stopped, which had something to do with the dream of a cowherd from the neighboring village of Mühlbach. For three nights, he dreamed that he should go to Heidelberg to the Old Bridge, where he would find his fortune. The young man then went to Heidelberg and waited on the bridge for half a day for his promised fortune. But nothing happened, except that a citizen of Heidelberg asked him what he was waiting for so impatiently. He then told the stranger about his dream, to which the man simply replied: “You can’t rely on dreams. I also dreamed that there was a lot of money hidden under the washing boiler on Ottilienberg, and I don’t even know where that mountain is!” It now dawned on the cowherd what his prophesied fortune was. He traveled home inspired by the stranger’s information. Once there, he set off for Ottilienberg and dug for the treasure at the spot the stranger had described to him. He actually found it at the said location and left the country with the money. Since then, the white nun and her goat have never been seen again, and the farmstead could finally be used. So much for the legend of the legendary Ottilienberg with the white haunting nun.
