The mystery of the white woman in the castle

Guttenberg Castle towers high above the Neckar Valley and is one of the last undestroyed castles in Germany from the Staufer period. According to legend, the ghost of an ancient, tall, white woman haunted this castle for a long time. This ghost of the white woman was not an evil spirit. She even helped the maids with the laundry and baking. Only now and then did she play pranks on the servants, stealing their bed covers while they slept or hiding their clothes. The little pranks of the tall, white woman were part of everyday life at the castle. But something strange caught the attention of not only the castle servants, but also the lord of the castle. The ghost, which never hurt anyone, always disappeared into a corner of the washhouse, as if it wanted to communicate something. The ghost literally vanished into thin air there. This bothered the lord of the castle, so he had the spot dug up. Sure enough, they found the skeleton of a large woman and the skeleton of a baby. It turned out to be the skeleton of the white woman who had once worked as a maid at the castle. She had secretly given birth to her illegitimate child, killed it, and buried it at this spot. As a result, she was cursed to wander the earth as a ghost after her death until her murder was discovered. The lord of the castle took pity on the woman and had her bones buried in a cemetery, where she finally found peace. Since then, she has never been seen again at Guttenberg Castle.
